ABOUT

My name is Louise. I was diagnosed with autism in my late forties, and two years later diagnosed with ADHD.

This blog is my journey from late diagnosis, how I navigate the ups and downs of life, and the strategies I use to cope.

I also write about my lifestyle, my life experiences, and raising awareness about neurodiversity.

Autism and ADHD can look different in each person. This is one way they can present.

This blog is for reference and education only, and not professional advice. Please consult a specialist for diagnosis or support.

The Cost of Wasted Talent in Today’s Workforce

Have you ever thought that you were in the wrong job? Some people have never had the opportunity to reach their full potential for many reasons. I know this all too well by having a disability.

Richard J. Murphy is a political economist, and he explains how some people’s talent is being wasted and has never been discovered.

Work is essential for society to function. Many people have been fortunate enough to find work they enjoy and that suits their abilities. However, some people have spent years, even their entire working lives, in the wrong role that does not allow them to develop or make full use of their talents. When this happens, the impact is not only personal, but society also loses new ideas, problem-solving, entrepreneurship, learning, new opportunities and growth.

This is a global problem, not just in the UK. Finding better ways to unlock people’s potential is rewarding for the individual and benefits society.

We have to think of solutions by asking:

What changes could we make to help people develop their talents while earning a living?

Can society better encourage work and creativity?

Can society create more opportunities for graduates and people changing direction later in life?
