ABOUT

My name is Louise. I was diagnosed with autism in my late forties.

This blog is my journey from late diagnosis, how I navigate the ups and downs of life, and the strategies I use to cope.

I also write about my lifestyle, my life experiences, and raising awareness about neurodiversity.

Autism is a spectrum, and it can look different in each person. This is one way autism can present.

This blog is for reference and education only, and not professional advice. Please consult a specialist for diagnosis or support.

Turning Writing Passion into Productivity

Over the past few months, I started working on a project. I thought it would be a great idea to put my love of writing to good use. Working as a freelance writer is an ideal future career choice for me. I have the qualifications that would benefit my freelance writing, and I am so glad to be taking the steps toward this goal.

There are many reasons for this. I can work from home, and since I can control my environment better there, it makes sense to do so. I can write alongside my current job, choose my hours, research topics I enjoy, continue to improve my writing as I earn money, and do something I love. It is a business I can do anywhere, and besides a laptop and some insurance requirements, all I need is an internet connection.

The thought of this business initially overwhelmed me. There is so much to think about, but now I can focus on my website, portfolio and complete the final requirements to get started. I now see the end of the winding path I have had to travel to reach this stage of the project.

It is exciting, but also scary to start something new, and it will be worth it in the end. I am getting support to design my website, and I didn’t realise the work involved, but it will eventually come together. It is going to take time. Since I want my website to look good and engaging, I’ll also need to finish my portfolio. I know how to move forward and build my client base. I can start doing a few small jobs before diving into larger ones.

Freelance writing can be slow in the beginning, but I will make the final decision on the niche I will write in at the start. I also want to go back to creative writing and write more stories. I wrote during the pandemic lockdown, which I really enjoyed. A writing competition highly commended one of my short pieces, and they published it in an anthology, so it is worthwhile.

I know there will be stressful days when doing freelance writing, as with any work, there are good days and bad days. I will have to work through this, and I am no stranger to stress. With time, I will get used to the system and reap the rewards of my hard work.

I will keep you all updated on how this project is going.
