ABOUT

My name is Louise. I was diagnosed with autism in my late forties.

This blog is my journey from late diagnosis, how I navigate the ups and downs of life, and the strategies I use to cope.

I also write about my lifestyle, my life experiences, and raising neurodiversity awareness.

Autism is a spectrum, and it can look different in each person. This is one way autism can present.

Fuss Over a Sandwich

To make a big deal over a sandwich is crazy, I know😂.

My daughter asked if she could have a packed lunch to school before the holidays. She has been having school dinners, and it has been so convenient. I don’t have to think about preparing lunch for her; I don’t have to buy extra shopping and have to remember to put the lunch in her bag. I am terrified I forget to put her lunch in her bag, and she gets upset when she doesn’t have it.

However, she does not like anything that they prepare for lunch at school, so I know I have to give her a packed lunch so she is happy about what she is eating at lunchtime.

It has been stressful, as I have to add making a sandwich into my routine as well as the other hundreds of things I have to do. It is about keeping life simple so I can cope with doing what is important. Doing something one-off I can get over the finish line, but maintaining some tasks daily, and being able to keep doing it can be very difficult without getting totally exhausted.

I woke up this morning, and I have decided to take it baby steps at a time as I normally do with new tasks. I fill her lunchbox with her snacks the night before and put it in her bag for the next day so it is ready. By the end of the week I will be making a sandwich the night before, and it will become part of my routine.
