ABOUT

My name is Louise. I was diagnosed with autism in my late forties.

This blog is my journey from late diagnosis, how I navigate the ups and downs of life, and the strategies I use to cope.

I also write about my lifestyle, my life experiences, and raising neurodiversity awareness.

Autism is a spectrum, and it can look different in each person. This is one way autism can present.

This blog is for reference and education only, and not professional advice. Please consult a specialist for diagnosis or support.

What I Wish For

Learning something new is so straightforward if you find the correct resources. I love to learn, and I like to research new topics. Getting the correct information before discussing something is important to me. I don’t want to insult anyone, and I hate disrespecting people. If I do it, it is unintentional.

One thing I wish for the most is that families learn about autism. Some seem to remain ignorant about it, despite their relatives being diagnosed. It should be something they are interested in learning about. Ignorance is understandable if someone has not heard of autism before. It is a complex condition, however with time, anyone can learn about it. Society cannot support autistic people without learning what we need.

I couldn’t count how many times I have heard ignorant comments about autism that are wrong. It affects so many families, and autism is more common than we think. I don’t want to be cured, but I want people to understand and support me.

I think society is more interested in finding a cure than learning about autism, and we cannot cure something that we don’t know what causes it in the first place. Genetics play a big part, but it is still unknown what, or if, there are any other factors.

Consideration costs nothing, and we all need to do more of it.
