ABOUT

My name is Louise. I was diagnosed with autism in my late forties.

This blog is my journey from late diagnosis, how I navigate the ups and downs of life, and the strategies I use to cope.

I also write about my lifestyle, my life experiences, and raising awareness about neurodiversity.

Autism is a spectrum, and it can look different in each person. This is one way autism can present.

This blog is for reference and education only, and not professional advice. Please consult a specialist for diagnosis or support.

Resilience

Everyone faces challenges we have to overcome. However, until you know what it is really like to cope with the demands of life and having limitations, you don’t learn to have the same resilience.

Autism is a daily challenge. I have problems with confidence and self-worth. Even when I have done something well, I still question if I could have done it better or if I have done it correctly. Without support, my anxiety and stress increases, and I am often left feeling burnt out.

Autism is a different way of thinking, communicating, learning, and experiencing the world. The challenge is living in an environment that expects behavior and moving through life in a way that is incompatible with your brain’s design. This causes the challenges.

I have built up so much resilience over the years, but I push myself too much. I have not learned self care and how to set healthy boundaries. I am also not good at seeking help when I need it. These areas are a challenge for me because I always fear how the future will turn out. I like to know what the results will be. If I go to work, I get paid and I keep my job. If I am off, will I keep my job?

However, it gives me confidence when I have overcome a challenge. I am willing to take on challenges and hopefully I will succeed. I can learn from my failures and accept my limitations. One of my challenges is opening up about how I feel by writing this blog and sharing it with others.
